Fashion Design Short Course

Course Objectives:

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • To develop their unique design aesthetics and translate them into traditional and digital formats.
  • Gain proficiency in using digital tools and software relevant to modern fashion design, from drawing to 3D garment creation.
  • Equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the Fashion industry, with a strong emphasis on digital innovation and sustainability.
  • To create a comprehensive digital portfolio showcasing their work across Fashion illustration, Textile design, and Digital Fashion.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • No prior experience is required in Fashion Design.
  • Basic computer literacy is recommended.
  • Access to a computer with design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) is essential.
  • Matriculation needed

Course Duration:

  • Total Duration: 3 months
  • Weekly Schedule: 6 hours/week (2 hours per subject)

Fashion Drawing & Design

  1. Introduction to Fashion Illustration:
  • Understanding body proportions
  • Drawing techniques (croquis, fashion poses)
  • Rendering fabrics and textures
  1. Design Elements & Principles:
  • Line, shape, colour, and texture in fashion design
  • Balance, rhythm, emphasis, proportion, and harmony
  1. Garment Design:
  • Sketching garments (tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear)
  • Designing collections and fashion lines
  • Exploring historical and contemporary fashion trends
  1. Technical Drawing:
  • Flat sketches and technical drawings
  • Specifications for production
  • Using digital tools for sketching (Adobe Photoshop, CoralDraw)

Digital Textiles

  1. Introduction to Textiles:
  • Understanding different types of fabrics and their properties
  • The history and evolution of Textile design
  1. Digital Textile Design:
  • Creating Textile patterns using software (Adobe Photoshop, CorelDRAW)
  • Techniques for repeating patterns, colourways, and texture mapping
  • Exploring digital print technologies

  • Simulating fabric drape
  1. Sustainability in Textiles:
  • Exploring Sustainable Textile Design Practices
  • Digital tools for sustainable fabric sourcing and production

Digital Illustration

  1. Introduction to Digital Illustration:
  • Overview of digital Illustration and its impact on the industry
  • Understanding the digital Illustration.
